Job Description

The Department of Business and Information Technology in the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economics Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Design Thinking, Finance, and/or Commercializing New Technologies. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in research and/or teaching, with a passion for innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in a technology-driven university setting.

The successful candidates will play an integral role in supporting Missouri S&T's entrepreneurial ecosystem, fostering innovation, and driving the commercialization of new technologies. We seek individuals who are enthusiastic about contributing to the growth of both the academic and business communities through teaching, research, and industry collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-quality research in entrepreneurship, innovation, design thinking, finance, or commercialization of new technologies.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in entrepreneurship, innovation, design thinking, finance, and/or technology commercialization.
  • Mentor students on research projects, entrepreneurial endeavors, and business ventures.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across Missouri S&T and the Kummer College to advance technology commercialization efforts.
  • Engage with industry, startups, venture capital, and other partners to create impactful learning and research opportunities.
  • Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in entrepreneurship, management, finance, business administration, marketing, strategy, or a closely related field from an AACSB accredited business school or equivalent accreditation.
  • Strong potential for, or demonstrated record of, excellence in research in entrepreneurship, management, finance, business administration, marketing, or strategy with an emphasis on venture capital, corporate valuation, start-ups, technology transfer, and/or commercializing new technologies.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Industry experience, especially in startups or commercialization of technologies, is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial modeling for startups, venture capital, or commercialization of technology.
  • Active involvement in entrepreneurial ecosystems, such as business incubators, accelerators, or venture capital.
  • Experience working in industry, startups, or technology commercialization.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.

COLLEGE of ENGINEERING & COMPUTING (CEC)
Missouri S&T's College of Engineering and Computing is the largest of three colleges at S&T, accounting for approximately 80% of the total enrollment (about 4,500 undergraduates and 800 graduate students). The college includes more than 170 ranked faculty members who serve in 16 undergraduate programs, all with master's and doctoral equivalents organized into nine academic departments.
