Summary

Willdan Engineering has a current opening for a full-time Supervising Geotechnical Engineering in the Orange County, CA area. The qualified individual will be responsible for directing and managing various geotechnical - related projects in conformance with plans, specifications, regulations, and codes during all construction phases.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Act as the liaison between Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing Group and the Construction Management Group
  • Develop an engineering operating strategy that is aligned with Willdan Engineering's business strategy and implement a business development plan
  • Ensure compliance with state, local and federal regulations
  • Participate in the development of department's revenue strategies and expenditure goals to achieve profit objectives
  • Review financial reports and statements and compare to budget to help guide and manage department performance
  • Coach and support Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing Team to effectively manage controllable expenses
  • Identify and address potential areas of concern and propose solutions to Director of Construction Management in a proactive manner
  • Understand the impact of department's operation on the overall financial goals; educate staff on details as appropriate
  • Prepare quality proposals and cost estimates for procuring new work/repeat work
  • Manage Geotechnical and Geological design and analysis; assess research and studies; and review testing results, calculations, and reports
  • Supervise Geotechnical Engineering tasks to ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary guidelines
  • Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably
  • Utilize employee feedback and an "open door" policy to identify and address employee problems or concerns in a timely manner
  • Ensure regular on-going communication takes place throughout the geotechnical engineering operation to communicate daily operations activities, set expectations and create awareness of business objectives

Qualifications:

  • 10 years' minimum experience with strong understanding of geotechnical engineering designs and specifications including development of engineering properties of soil and rock, foundation design and analysis, foundation analysis under dynamic loads and earthworks, pile installation and testing, numerical analysis, soil and/or rock slope stability analysis, and construction specifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California or Registered Geotechnical Engineer (G.E.) in the State of California or related Geologist Certification is preferable.
  • Strong project leadership with successful performance history of client management and technical management required
  • Familiarity with Caltrans QAP and LAPM Standards
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, lead, and manage multiple projects successfully to achieve technical goals, control budget for profitability, adhere to deadlines, and produce quality deliverables to clients
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, time management, organization, budgeting, writing, and speaking skills are required
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and technical drawings
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Familiarity with operating smart devices
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Direct Reports:

This person will have 4-6 direct reports.
