Position description

Academic Pediatric Pathologist - Assistant/Associate/ Full Professor

UC Davis Health, Sacramento Campus

The UC Davis Health School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the UC Davis Children's Hospital are seeking an academic research-intensive Pediatric Pathologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Clinical (X) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) series. Clinical duties will chiefly involve pediatric pathology and pediatric autopsies. Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, and small group teaching of housestaff and medical students, including interdisciplinary conferences to housestaff and faculty, and curriculum development in subspecialty areas.

Participation in the institution's research mission is expected, either as a collaborator or as an intellectual leader of clinically oriented research projects pertinent to the candidate's areas of expertise, and subspecialty training, depending on the academic series chosen for appointment. Successful candidates will identify a vision and strategy for developing a research program at UC Davis Health.

The proposed candidate will have multiple opportunities for collaboration within the UC Davis Health System, including close collaborations with expert hematopathologists, neuropathologists, bone and soft tissue pathologists, including outstanding clinicians and scientists throughout the UC Davis Health School of Medicine, UC Davis Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Children, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Divison and fetal surgery programs, precision medicine program, MIND Institute, Institute for Regenerative Cures, Center for Comparative Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, and California National Primate Center.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Must have an MD or MD/PhD
  • Must be board-eligible/certified in anatomic pathology and pediatric pathology.
  • A California professional license or eligibility for licensure in California is required.
  • Two to five years of experience in a clinical or academic setting that includes clinical care, teaching, and research that would meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in one of the University of California's clinically-intensive academic series [Clinical (X) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) series]
  • At least one year of experience teaching is required.
  • Clinical and teaching expertise in pediatric pathology is required (other surgical subspecialty expertise is optional).
  • The ability to maintain a high-level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others is required.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

Board eligibility/certification in clinical pathology is encouraged but not required.
