Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing initial, ongoing and systematic utilization review and discharge planning efforts (in coordination with discharge planner) on all patients assigned by Director, coordinating patient care; advocating for the patient and facility; and promoting quality of care. All other duties as reasonably assigned to meet department objectives to include schedule variations. Schedule is Monday through Friday 8-5 and may include a flexible schedule on holidays.


Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

Position may require walking, standing sitting for prolonged periods of time.

*

Occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds and carries small objects from waist to chest.

*

Requires ability to work long periods on the phone; to hear and speak clearly over the phone.

*

Must be able to read and write and specifically record information and read medical records.

*

Regularly needs to bend, stoop and reach.

*

Emotional stability necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

*

Vision and hearing sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Skills:

Requires organizational, verbal, interpersonal and customer service skills, grammar and spelling, the ability to read/comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, referral sources, patients/families, community resources, etc. Ability to exercise professional independent judgment in planning own work. Must be flexible with work hours to accommodate work volumes. Knowledge of utilization management and managed care environment is helpful.

Experience/Education:

Bachelor Degree in a human services field (Master's level preferred) with two years of treatment-oriented experience, OR a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with a current Colorado RN license. Experience in utilization review, managed care, or determining appropriateness for level of care is preferred.

Staff Development Requirements:

Must meet or exceed hospital and regulatory agency training requirements.

Exposure Category I:

The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
