About the Team

Join a multi-laboratory team building one of the nation's most advanced radiographic systems. The Scorpius accelerator is a next-generation, multi-pulse linear induction accelerator designed to generate high-energy X-rays that capture rapid, high-resolution images of dynamic experiments critical to stockpile stewardship and national security.

About the Role

In this role, you will work hands-on with engineers and scientists from Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, Sandia, and the Nevada National Security Site to install and align precision accelerator components that must operate within extremely tight tolerances. The system will ultimately deliver multiple X-ray images within fractions of a microsecond, enabling unprecedented insight into complex physical processes that cannot be observed any other way.

What You will Do:

  • Support precision measurement and alignment of large-scale mechanical systems and components
  • Assist with setup and operation of metrology equipment such as laser trackers, scanners, and measurement tools
  • Perform hands-on work with mechanical systems, tooling, and alignment hardware
  • Collect and process measurement data using metrology software
  • Work closely with engineering teams during installation and commissioning activities
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and apply basic GD&T principles
  • Maintain equipment, ensure proper handling of sensitive and high-value machinery
  • Follow strict safety and operational procedures in a controlled work environment

Who Should Apply

  • Local high school college grads with hand-tool and heavy equipment experience
  • Local non-technical team leads or managers seeking an engineering transition
  • Local early-mid career technicians or engineers seeking specialized work in metrology
  • Anyone who is interested and local to the Merucy, NV / Las Vegas area!

What You Will Need:

  • All candidates must presently reside in Las Vegas. Relocation is not available for this role.
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software systems quickly
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with hand tools or equipment
  • Experience working with heavy, complex, or high-value machinery preferred
  • An ability to commute and cooperate with diverse teams in unique settings
  • 1+ year of relevant experience OR equivalent hands-on experience (military, trade, technical, or field work highly valued)
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistent work history (strong tenure preferred)
  • Comfortable working in an active industrial or field environment
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance, which includes a federal background check and a federal drug test

Nice to Have

  • Prior metrology, alignment, or precision measurement experience or interest
  • Experience in military, manufacturing, construction, or technical field roles
  • Exposure to GD&T or technical drawings

Work Terms

  • Regular onsite work at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS)
  • Occasional onsite travel to national laboratory partners may be required
