Part-Time Nurse Manager - WVU Keyser

Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, is seeking applications for a Part-Time Nurse Manager.

About the Opportunity

The Nurse Manager will work with the Dean of Academic and Student Affairs to determine weekly coverage of Student Health Center and ensure campus health care needs are being met in an effective and efficient manner. Employee will also create, plan and implement campus-wide wellness initiatives.

What You'll Do

• Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other people in a position to understand service requirements.
• Utilizes evidence-based nursing guidelines to write and update policies and procedures.
• Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  Maintains accurate medical files on all patients presenting to health center for nursing care, including nurse's notes, physician notes and orders, emergency notification information, and diagnostic reports.
• Assures quality of care by interpreting nursing theories and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.
• Maintains qualified nursing staff by participating in searches and by orienting, training, and evaluating nursing students and casual nurse employee.
• Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning appropriate nursing staff; following up on work results.
• Establishes a compassionate environment by providing physical and emotional support to patients, friends, and families.
• Administers screening instruments to all new patients that address substance abuse, tobacco use and general psychological
• Maintains medications that are stored in Health Center in a safe and secure manner. Disposes of expired medications in accordance with FDA regulations.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing in adherence to federal laws of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules.
• Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records a regular basis.
  Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
• Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintains nursing supplies.

Work Hours: 16 hours per week Monday-Thursday (10:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

Length of Assignment: 9 months

• Must be licensed by the West Virginia Board of Nurses as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
• A minimum of one (1) year in the following:
  • Direct patient care: Care in acute care setting. e.g. emergency room (preferably), hospital, outpatient/urgent care clinic or physician's office.
  • Health promotion/education: Experience in public health, health promotion/education is desirable.

• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

A licensed registered professional nurse must have substantial specialized judgment and skill based on knowledge and application of principles of nursing derived from the biological, physical and social sciences. Specialized skills include, but are not limited to, recognition of and appropriate actions to emergent health problems, administering medications, performing diagnostic tests and initiating the emergency response alert system. and providing first aid. Furthermore, the RN must be knowledgeable of the special health care needs of a diverse college population and culturally attuned to the needs of all patients

• Must possess a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in West Virginia.
