R&D Engineer II will serve as an expert in the application of liquid coatings and will work in support of both solvent and waterborne technologies. This role requires close collaboration with our formulating lab, Marketing, Sales, and end customers to advance technologies and meet product performance and warranty expectations.

-Communicating effectively and promptly with managers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. This includes delivering formal and informal presentations as needed.

  • -Hands-on development: applying, curing, and testing of new coating products.

  • -Analyzing data to identify trends, resolve customer issues, and assess information for project advancement.

  • -Leading technically complex projects or multiple simpler projects with minimal supervisor input.

  • -Establishing timelines and identifying resource needs to support project work.

  • -Apply specialized knowledge in liquid application equipment, application theory, liquid coating chemistry, pretreatment, and substrates to assist development of superior performance coatings and perform root cause analysis when problems arise.

  • -Maintain housekeeping standards and perform preventative maintenance for the liquid application lab.

  • -Implementation of continuous improvement efforts

  • -Use of SDS and raw materials management system

  • -Adherence to safety policies and laboratory documentation.

  • -May directly work with and mentor lower-level engineers, chemists, and technicians to support project goals.

  1. Required:

  • BS in Chemistry or Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial)

    1. Minimum of 3 years in liquid coating application, technical service, or research and development.

    1. Experience with Conventional air-spray, HVLP, Pressure Pots, and Electrostatic hand spray application.

  1. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Chemistry or Engineering

  1. 12+ years in liquid coating application or technical service

  1. Experience with any of the following liquid application methods: Airless/Air Assisted Airless, Electrostatic Air Assisted Airless, Rotary Bell, Turbo Disc

  1. Experience with robotic application equipment

  1. Experience in data visualization software to analyze large datasets.

  1. Experience at designing, executing and analyzing experimental studies to characterize product performance
