Tenure Track Position in Critical Geography

Pomona College invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor of Environmental Analysis (Critical Geography) specializing in critical geography, broadly conceived, beginning July 1, 2027. We seek a scholarteacher committed to excellent undergraduate education whose research and teaching examine relationships among space, environment, power, and social inequality, including socialscientific approaches to sustainability in urban and built environments.

The successful candidate will:

• Teach EA010 (Introduction to Environmental Analysis) and contribute to the core curriculum through critical perspectives on space, environment, and society.
• Teach additional undergraduate courses at the intermediate and advanced levels in critical geography and related areas, which may include human-environment relations, political ecology, or social dimensions of urban and regional geographies.
• Teach and develop courses that integrate geospatial technologies and spatial analysis, such as Arc GIS, QGIS, and related tools, with attention to social, political, and environmental contexts.
• Maintain an active, peerreviewed program of scholarship.
• Mentor undergraduate research and supervise senior thesis projects.
• Contribute, as appropriate, to interdisciplinary programs across Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Geography or a related field by the time of appointment. Applicants who are ABD and expect to complete all degree requirements by Dec. 2027 are encouraged to apply.
• Expertise in GIS and spatial methodologies, with the ability to teach these tools in ways that foreground social, environmental, and ethical considerations.
• Evidence of scholarly contributions consistent with tenure expectations.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and mentoring.
