RESEARCH SPECIALIST I

Division of Animal Sciences

The Division of Animal Sciences within the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) at the University of Missouri seeks a Research Specialist I to support animal science research programs. This position assists with the daily operations providing animal care, record keeping and support for the research and teaching efforts at the National Swine Resource and Research Center. These animals are at multiple locations across campus. These animals are of high value as they represent a genetic resource for the community of researchers funded by the National Institute of Health. Must maintain biosecurity at these various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

50% Feed and care of swine,

2% Assist with surgeries, C-Sections, embryo transfers, etc.

15% Estrous detection, semen collection and artificial insemination.

15% Administer medications.

7% Keep accurate records of all activities.

5% Observes animals for any signs of adverse health conditions.

2% Euthanizes animals and disposes of them in compliance with Federal laws.

2% Prepare animals for experimentation.

2% Collects samples from live or morbid animals.

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Bachelors degree in Animal Science or related field.

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.40 - $30.30 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
