Department Summary: Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Director of Internal Communications to lead our enterprise-wide function during a period of major organizational, digital, and operational transformation. As we expand as an integrated system, this leader will play a critical role in aligning, engaging, and informing employees across all locations and partnerships.
Reporting to the Senior Director, you will set strategy, oversee day-to-day operations, and manage a team of communications professionals. You will partner closely with executive, clinical, and operational leadership to translate complex organizational priorities into clear, compelling, and measurable employee-facing communications.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in internal and change communications, exceptional writing skills, and a strong executive presence. We are looking for a leader experienced in building modern, digital-first strategies that are data-driven, audience-centered, and enhanced by analytics and emerging AI tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the enterprise internal communications strategy and ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive editorial calendar tied to enterprise initiatives.
  • Serve as a senior strategic advisor to leaders on messaging, timing, audience segmentation, and change communications.
  • Lead communication planning for enterprise-wide initiatives, including culture, engagement, and transformation efforts.
  • Own communications strategy for major digital and operational initiatives, including Microsoft 365 adoption and Workday implementation.
  • Oversee internal communications channels and help modernize the communications ecosystem, with a focus on Teams and SharePoint.
  • Ensure communications are accurate, accessible, on brand, ADA-compliant, and tailored to diverse workforce audiences, including those without regular digital access.
  • Establish editorial standards, channel governance, and best practices.
  • Introduce innovative and interactive formats to strengthen employee engagement and improve the employee communications experience.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators and use data, analytics, and insights to continuously improve effectiveness.
  • Partner on executive and high-visibility transformation communications, including town halls, enterprise announcements, and leadership forums.
  • Support executive leaders in communicating change with clarity, transparency, and credibility across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience: 8-10 years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in healthcare or another complex, mission-driven organization.
  • Familiarity with HR communications, employee engagement, or change management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, employee privacy, and related communications considerations.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in communications, analytics, and personalization.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams and SharePoint.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
