TITLE: Converting Operator A
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Responsible for adjusting various bag machines to produce quality bags, meeting established specifications, without direct supervision. Must have sound judgment and the capacity to define problems, establish facts and take the appropriate action to resolve issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Comply with all written and verbal safety rules using PPE as required by department and plant safety programs
- Set up and adjust bag machines to produce on spec. quality bags at optimum running speeds
- Perform quality checks on each line every hour
- Perform routine preventative maintenance
- Recognize and correct mechanical, electrical or electronic problems
- Resolve operation problems reported by the packers
- Set up and splice baskets behind of the machines
- Decide when to call for maintenance assistance
- Keep all areas of the department clean & tidy
- Report when spare parts need to be reordered
- Keep machines clean of parts, tools and rags
- Help relieve packers for breaks and lunches
- Requires frequent overtime.
- Any other duties or assignments assigned by management
- Must possess basic knowledge of Good Manufacturing Policy, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points processes and support both programs.
- Inspect and test, as necessary, all incoming work in process and finished goods.
- Assure every test meets minimum standards.
- Read the schedule and follow all docket information.
- It is the responsibility of the Operator to monitor the quality of the shift.
- Make sure all quality information is passed on to the proper supervisor.
- Notify the Extrusion, Press, and Conversion Operators and Supervisors if any of the particular tests fail to meet the minimum standards.
- If a quality test fails, you must collect samples of the failed product, put the product on hold, get the supervisor or operator to correct the problem, and make any comments on shift paperwork.
- Monitors and enforces Food Safety Program
WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS SUBJECTED TO IN THIS POSITION:
- Inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions not necessarily temperature conditions.
- Outside environmental conditions, no effective protection from weather.
- Inside and outside environments apply
- Subject to extreme cold, temperature below 32 degrees for period of more than one hour
- Subject to noise causing reason to shout in order to be heard above noise level.
- Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gases, high heat or combustible material.
- Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation and dust.
- Subject to oils and other cutting fluids via touch or air.
PHYSICAL AND VISUAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs and the like using feet & legs or hands & arms
- Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine & waist. Example: Close examination of material samples displayed at or below waist level.
- Kneeling, bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching, bending the body downward & forward by bending legs and spine
- Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Example: giving signals, reaching for material or handle on item.
- Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time. Example: monitoring process conditions.
- Lifting, raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. Degree of lifting: 5-50 lbs.
- Fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in handling.
- Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
- Feeling, perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips
- Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, via face to face or telephone.
- Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds with not less than a 40 db loss @ 500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive verbal communications and make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
- Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
- Crawling, moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion
- Pushing, using the upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Machine operation, inspection, close assembly, clerical and administrative duties. Example: preparing and analyzing data entry, CRT exposure, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, using measurement devices or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Position requires individual to differentiate colors, depth and perception.
