Service Line Director Ophthalmology and Optometry

Summary:

The Service Line Director, Ophthalmology/Optometry is responsible for advancing ACH as the leader in the delivery of integrated care across the care continuum, which includes patient care operations and provider administrative management of specified service line departments. This role functions to support the delivery of quality care and achievement of a regionally and nationally recognized comprehensive Ophthalmology/Optometry service line. This position will develop and translate strategy into action for service line programming that covers the entire continuum of care (community services, outpatient diagnostics and treatment, inpatient care, tertiary and quaternary level services) across complex horizontal and vertical integration of the health system. The position will focus on access, care design and standardization and patient experience across the care continuum and is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with regional health system partners. This position will work in a highly matrixed structure across a complex health system for the overall administration, operation, business development and financial management of the service line to create alignment. Oversight includes strategic/business planning, practice recruitment and development, clinical outpatient and inpatient operations, resource deployment, human resource management, positive financial performance, and compliance oversight.

Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with service line clinical leadership, develop strategic priorities for the Ophthalmology/Optometry service line aligned with the organization strategy based on market analysis, advancing clinical research and technology and changes in external competitive environment.
  2. Develops and oversees strategic business planning functions including financial pro forma development for new business opportunities and preparing and managing department budgets. Identifies and drives opportunities to enhance financial stewardship and maintain or reduce expenditures across the service line.
  3. Develops strong relationships, and partners with the Ophthalmology/Optometry service line physician/clinical provider leaders and department chair. Works well with multiple partners across collaborative services, regional referral sources, organizational partners and system leadership on organizational initiatives and service line goals.
  4. Directs and implements strategic initiatives, new site development, and outreach services for the Ophthalmology/Optometry service line.
  5. Develops and translates strategy into action across a complex, horizontally, and vertically integrated health system.
  6. Builds strong operational processes, with the goal to achieve excellence in access, care design, patient experience, quality and safety in the service line.
  7. Drives quality and process improvement and promotes a culture of quality and value by supporting the deployment of quality tools and methodologies.
  8. Represents the service line internally and externally at local, regional, national professional meetings and forums.
  9. Adds value as a key member of management; understands the business, financials, industry, customers and strategy.
  10. Supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains, and develops, and manages performance to company goals and expectations.

Technical Expertise

  1. Experienceleadingservicelinesorclinicalprogramsina large organization or business unit isrequired. Relevant clinical experience is preferred.
  2. Significant experienceas a healthcare operational leader, ability to build multidisciplinaryprogramsand a record of accomplishment of progressive leadership. Ideally, the candidate will have hospital leadership experience in an organization with a reputation for successful Service Line programming that covers the entire continuum of care.
  3. Experience with practice management, business plan development and implementation,financial managementandanalysis,performanceandqualityimprovementstrategies, and project management is preferred.
  4. Experienceinpatientcareoperations,clinicalprogramsand healthcare management isrequired.
  5. Experiencewithphysicianrelationsisrequired.Arecordof demonstrable success working collaboratively and through influence within a highly matrixed reporting structure in a complex healthcare system.
  6. Experienceworkingwithalllevelswithinanorganizationisrequired.
  7. ProficiencyinMSOffice[Outlook,Excel,Word]orsimilar software isrequired.

Education and Experience

  1. Education:Master'sdegreeisrequired (MBA,MHAor related degree).
  2. Certification:Fellow in American College of Health Care Executives is preferred.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of relevant practice management and/or ambulatory health care experience is required.
  4. A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising/managing employees and/or teams is required.
