Position Summary

The Specialty RE Debt Management Associate will be responsible for support and offsetting of workload created by the assets within Debt Manager's assigned portfolio. This position reports to the Director, but directly supports the general debt management processes of Debt Manager's including, but not limited to review of draw requests, spreading/tracking of monthly property financials, preparation of credit memorandum and aggregation of data needed for portfolio analytics/analysis. In addition, this position will be a supplemental point of contact for clients, internal Bank parties and external Bank parties associated with their respective portfolio of assets and play a key role alongside Debt Managers in evaluating/recommending potential extensions, renewals or other modifications to assets within their assigned portfolio.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategic focus on and significant understanding and ability to perform oversight, administration and analytics for an assigned portfolio of large, complex real estate credits.

  • Prepares memorandum and facilitates the underwriting/modification of existing portfolio credits and/or renewals (as applicable).

  • Will support presentation of recommendations by Debt Managers to President, Director and/or loan committee when required exhibiting a deep understanding of credit(s) presented.

  • Provides support to ensure adherence to credit policy, guidelines and regulatory requirements in evaluation and/or structuring of credit opportunities.

  • Responsible for ongoing portfolio review of past dues, exceptions and maturing loan reports.

    • Reports past dues to Debt Manager/Director or makes contact to collect payment.

    • Works with Debt Manager/Director to collect items needed for renewal processing.

    • Makes appropriate recommendations for these accounts.

    • Reports deteriorating credit situations to Director and/or President as needed.

  • Ensures funding of construction loan disbursements in accordance with bank policy. Works closely with Debt Manager and/or borrower, title companies and other third parties to ensure accurate disbursements with ongoing monitoring and record keeping.

  • Participates in evaluating risk rating and makes revision recommendations.

  • Ensures all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are preferred.

  • Ability to interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, policy requirements and/or legal documentation.

  • Ability to learn to read, analyze and interpret financial report and/or legal documents.

  • Experience in writing/preparing complex reports and memos.

  • Experience in presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees in the organization.

Education and/or Experience

  • BS/BA Degree in applicable field of study (MBA or advanced degree in applicable field of study preferred); and

  • 2 years' experience in commercial real estate lending or investing, specifically in an underwriting and/or asset management capacity.

Computer Skills

  • MS Office programs (advanced Excel skills preferred)

  • ARGUS (preferred)

  • Teamwork - balances induvial responsibilities with team goals. Contributes to a positive team environment and provides support for others when needed.
