Position Summary

With direct supervision, the Accountant I assists more senior accounting professionals to coordinate and administer accounting initiatives at a local level. Day-to-day responsibilities include the application of accounting principles, analysis of information, and preparing financial / cost accounting reports. This role will have no direct reports.

Essential Functions

  • Completes assigned daily general ledger entries and other financial transactions in accordance with accounting principles so that the general ledger is accurate and up-to-date
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial data including income statement and balance sheet
  • Collects and compiles simple financial information and assist senior accountant to prepare accurate and timely financial reports and accounting statements for managers
  • Reports may include profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, regulatory reports and fillings
  • Answers standard accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations
  • Complies with all accounting principles and all relevant regulations, laws, and standards
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Foundational understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS awareness is a plus)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (sorting, formulas, pivot tables a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Good communication skills and willingness to learn
