KLCC is expanding its award-winning newsroom. We are seeking an Assistant News Director/Reporter who will help guide daily journalism across broadcast and digital platforms, work closely with reporters to shape story ideas, and provide essential editing oversight prior to publication or air. This role supports KLCC's News Director and plays a key part in delivering high-quality, trustworthy local reporting for the region.

Starting Salary Range $61,034 - $71,401 Annual (Management Salary Grade ##) |
| Salary/Compensation Statement: |
- The position's full salary range is $61,034 to $90,345. New employees cannot be placed higher than $71,401 (step 5 on the salary grade) due to internal equity. The application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.
- Our Management Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability as well as paid sick leave and vacation time.
- Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions regarding your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or to the US Department of Education.

| Position Purpose: |
The Assistant News Director/Reporter supports KLCC's mission by helping manage daily news production, coordinating with reporters, and ensuring accuracy, fairness, and editorial excellence across KLCC's radio and digital platforms. This position assists the News Director with story assignments, editing, workflow organization, and the development of emerging reporters.
The Assistant News Director/Reporter also produces original reporting, either on-air or digital, and may occasionally anchor newscasts, contribute to long-form programming, or participate in community engagement events.
This role requires sound editorial judgment, strong writing and editing skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to maintaining KLCC's high ethical and journalistic standards. |
| Essential Functions: |
Editorial and Newsroom Support
- Work with reporters on story development, including idea generation, sourcing, and angle refinement.
- Provide editing oversight of daily news content prior to publication or broadcast.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of daily and weekly story assignments.
- Monitor regional news and community issues to identify coverage priorities.
- Support the News Director in maintaining KLCC's editorial standards, workflow, and content strategy across platforms.
- Participate in local, regional, and national editorial partnerships when appropriate.
Reporting & Production
- Produce regular news stories for broadcast and digital publication.
- Host or anchor newscasts or special programming as needed.
- Participate in the production of KLCC long-form journalism, including interviews, podcasts, and live events.
- Assist with the production of KLCC news products such as email newsletters, podcasts, and special series.
Community Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain community contacts to support robust and diverse news coverage.
- Participate in public events, town halls, and debates as assigned.
- Respond to listener/reader inquiries regarding coverage and news standards.
Team Development & Operations
- Provide coaching and feedback to reporters, interns, and fellows.
- Promote an inclusive, equitable, and supportive newsroom environment.
- Support training initiatives on journalistic ethics, digital publishing, and newsroom best practices.

| Supervision Statement: |
Reports to the News Director. Manages daily editorial operations and provides guidance and coaching to reporters, interns, and content contributors. Collaborates closely with the Program Director, digital team, and Public Affairs production staff. |
| Physical Demands/Working Environment: |
This position will work primarily in an office environment, with some field reporting and public events required. Some moderate lifting and transportation of equipment may be necessary.
KLCC covers communities throughout western and central Oregon and occasional travel outside Eugene-Springfield may be assigned. Work safely. |
