Overview The specialist will staff a 24/7 centralized incident reporting desk to receive reports of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) related incidents as well as providing field response and support to operating business units for EH&S incidents. This role will provide general guidance on EH&S issues by acting as a 24/7 hotline for the company. The specialist will deliver EH&S notifications to key company employees and regulatory/governmental agencies in an accurate and timely manner. This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Receive EH&S-related incident reports, including oil and chemical releases, opacity incidents, injuries, illnesses and motor vehicle accidents. Facilitate closure of incidents and/or spills with authority having jurisdiction.
- Communicate with regulators on the Company's behalf. Provide guidance to EH&S representatives and operations for compliance to all federal, state and local environmental regulations and laws.
- Serve as a liaison between EH&S/Operating Organizations and environmental regulatory agencies.
- Deliver notifications to company personnel and regulatory/governmental agencies in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
- Provide subject matter expertise on regulatory reporting, notification, response, remediation and prevention of oil spills and hazardous substance releases, as well as initial response and observation associated with significant safety related incidents.
- Assist and participate in tabletop and field incident response exercises and training.
- Respond to environmental incidents, including petroleum and oil spills, steam main failures and chemical releases.
- Perform quality assurance assessments on the company's compliance with environmental regulations and laws, including but not limited to hazardous waste manifest and Part 360.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years' related work experience or
- Associate's Degree and 4 years' related work experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years' related work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related fields
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related fields and 2 years' related work experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Professional experience working in the Environmental Health & Safety field, required. Required
- Must be able to work on a rotating shift, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, required. Required
- Completion of Company CEHSP program as soon as possible. Successful completion of position specific EH&S as applicable, required. Required
- Ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel and regulatory agencies, required. Required
- Ability to deliver exemplary customer service and develop a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edison's Corporate Values, required. Required
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and/or an ability to quickly become proficient with database packages including Microsoft Office and Maximo, required. Required
- Experience in responding to environmental incidents, preferred. Preferred

- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
