Position Summary: Reporting to the System Physician Oncology Executive and Director of the Research Institute, the Oncology Research Scientist will support the development and execution of oncology research with a primary focus on outcomes, cancer care delivery research, and research supporting population cancer health. This role will partner closely with clinical and faculty leaders to expand research capacity, enhance grant funding, and advance evidence-based improvements in cancer care. The Oncology Research Scientist will function as a key methodological and scientific resource, enabling high-quality research. What you will do: Research Development & Execution
- Collaborate with oncology faculty and clinical leaders to design and implement research studies focused on outcomes, cancer care delivery, implementation science, and quality improvement.
- Provide methodological expertise in study design, data analysis, and interpretation (e.g., observational studies, pragmatic trials, health services research, implementation research methods).
- Support development and execution of investigator-initiated studies and participation in collaborative research networks.
- Partner with data, analytics, and clinical teams to leverage real-world data to evaluate care delivery, patient outcomes, and disparities.
- Contribute to manuscript development and dissemination of findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Grant Development & Research Support
- Identify relevant funding opportunities (NIH, foundations, industry, and other sponsors) aligned with institutional priorities.
- Lead and support grant writing, including proposal development, study design, and coordination of submissions.
- Serve as a resource to faculty and clinicians in preparing competitive grant applications and research protocols.
- Help build internal research capacity by supporting junior investigators and fostering collaborative, team-based science.
Programmatic & Clinical Collaboration
- Work with clinical and operational leaders to evaluate and improve oncology care delivery through data-driven insights.
- Support development and assessment of clinical pathways, quality initiatives, and value-based care models.
- Facilitate integration of research findings into clinical practice using implementation science frameworks and strategies where appropriate.
- Collaborate with institutional partners to align research efforts with system priorities and patient needs.
What you will need:
- Education: PhD or equivalent in health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field (MD optional but not required).
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in outcomes research, healthcare delivery research, and successful grant funding.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and methodological expertise
- Experience with grant writing and funded research
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with real-world data sources and healthcare systems
- Ideal candidates will bring experience in oncology outcomes research, cancer care delivery research, implementation science, or population health, along with strong analytic skills and experience working with clinical datasets, cancer registries, EHR or claims data. Candidates should be collaborative, able to work across multidisciplinary teams, and experienced in translating research findings into practical improvements in cancer care delivery. Familiarity with health equity, value-based care, digital health, AI applications in oncology, precision oncology, or implementation of evidence-based interventions is desirable.
