The Part-Time Junior Mechanic supports the safety, reliability, and appearance of Cool Fuel Transportation's fleet and facilities through preventative maintenance, equipment cleaning, and general yard upkeep. This role assists with routine maintenance activities on tractors and trailers while helping ensure equipment remains clean, compliant, and ready for operation. The Part-Time Junior Mechanic works both independently and alongside experienced teammates to support daily fleet operations. Rooted in our commitment to safety, teamwork, and service, this role contributes to keeping our fleet operating efficiently while providing opportunities to develop valuable mechanical skills.
- Wash, clean, and detail tractors, trailers, and transportation equipment
- Clean and wash out trailers to maintain safety, cleanliness, and operational standards
- Perform routine preventative maintenance activities including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication services
- Replace and repair tractor and trailer lighting components as needed
- Assist with tire inspections, repairs, and replacements
- Conduct basic equipment inspections and communicate maintenance concerns to leadership
- Support fleet readiness by helping prepare equipment for service and operation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, shop, and work areas
- Remove trash and debris from operational areas to support a safe work environment
- Assist with inventory organization and maintenance of shop supplies and tools
- Follow all safety procedures, environmental requirements, and company policies
- Safely operate maintenance equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Work collaboratively with teammates to complete maintenance and fleet support activities
- Assist with additional fleet maintenance and operational projects as assigned
- Support a positive team environment through dependable attendance and strong work ethic
Education:
- High School Diploma, GED, or currently pursuing completion of a high school education
Experience/Training:
- Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks and safely use common hand tools
License/Certification:
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing 70 pounds or more on a regular basis
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods
- Ability to safely climb in and out of trailers and onto equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Ability to work weekends as scheduled
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Technology/Equipment:
Previous experience performing vehicle or equipment maintenance
Basic mechanical knowledge of diesel trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment
Experience working in transportation, fleet, trucking, agricultural, or industrial environments
Familiarity with shop tools, preventative maintenance practices, and safety procedures
Interest in developing a career in fleet maintenance or diesel mechanics
Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching throughout the workday
- Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials weighing up to 70 pounds or more
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment, vehicles, and maintenance tools
- Work performed in both shop and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, oils, and other conditions commonly found in maintenance and transportation environments
- Use of personal protective equipment as required
The anticipated hiring rate for the role you are applying for is $18 hourly. This anticipated hiring range is based on several factors, and subject to increase based on the below:
