General Responsibilities:

We are hiring an experienced Driller / ETM 4 to lead field drilling operations on geotechnical and environmental projects. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled operator who wants consistent work, reliable equipment, and the ability to take ownership of projects without the constraints of a union environment.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

Drilling & Equipment Operation

* Operate and manage drill rigs using auger, mud rotary, and coring methods

* Perform field testing and support subsurface exploration activities

* Safely transport drill rigs and support equipment to and from job sites

* Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep equipment production-ready

Crew Leadership

* Lead a 2-3 person crew with full responsibility for daily field operations

* Train and mentor junior team members with a focus on safety, efficiency, and skill development

* Take initiative in solving field challenges independently

Field Execution

* Set up sites, locate utilities, and establish drilling locations

* Install monitoring wells, piezometers, and other instrumentation

* Adapt to changing ground conditions and keep projects moving efficiently

* Handle tools, materials, and samples safely and effectively

Documentation & Quality

* Complete daily drilling logs, field reports, and DOT requirements

* Classify soil and rock samples in the field

* Maintain accurate and organized project records

Safety & Planning

* Lead daily safety discussions and pre-task planning

* Identify and address jobsite hazards

* Ensure all work meets company safety and quality standards

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5+ years of drill rig operation experience (geotechnical or environmental)

  • Strong working knowledge of multiple drilling methods

  • Proven ability to run a crew and manage field operations independently

  • Mechanical skills for maintaining and troubleshooting equipment

  • Valid commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving record

  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Card within 30 days

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minnesota Department of Health well drilling license

  • Experience installing monitoring wells or instrumentation

  • Experience with CPT or in-situ testing methods
