Diverse network engineering background supporting Cisco Wireless Infrastructure, firewalls, and ISE Description Our client is looking for a Network Engineer to join their team. This is a hybrid position, they expect this person to be on-site 3 days/week at their Headquarters in Columbia, MD and they can work remote 2 days/week. The Network Engineer III is responsible for the technical design/architecture, configuration and implementation of core elements that comprise the company's enterprise data networks. The Network Engineer III serves as a technical consultant within multiple project teams and is responsible for the effective and timely delivery and support of networking solutions to meet the defined needs of the organization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Leads planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of network solutions to support the enterprise Collaborates with multiple project team members to define project-specific requirements and meet project deliverables within the networking space Provides tier-3 level technical support to resolve complex networking issues with a strong focus on customer service Creates and maintains comprehensive technical design documentation for implemented solutions Assists in technical evaluation of potential new technologies and vendor selection for solutions Supports the Network Operations Team by facilitating effective service transition and technical development Performs other duties as assigned/necessary Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent work experience preferred Minimum of 7 years of experience managing and supporting large-enterprise networks - designing, planning, documenting, and implementing LANs and WANs CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or CWNA preferred Firsthand experience with network hardware - specifically Cisco 9K switches & Meraki switches/routers Advanced knowledge of IP routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF & HSRP Managing Palo Alto firewall - administration and support Preferred knowledge of Zscaler ZIA/ZPA Preferred familiarity with Cisco ISE for network access control Experience using packet capture software such as Wireshark and other sniffer tools; ability to perform comprehensive network performance analysis Advanced understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, including common application protocols Preferred knowledge of Cisco ACI Skills Network engineering, Cisco switches, Cisco routers, Firewall, meraki Top Skills Details Network engineering,Cisco switches,Cisco routers,Firewall,meraki Additional Skills & Qualifications Upcoming Meraki Refresh project (2026-2027) Hardware Refresh: Our client is replacing old Cisco Catalyst switches (3560/3650 models) in approximately 70 branches with new Meraki switches. SD-WAN Migration: The existing Silver Peak/Aruba SD-WAN solution will be replaced with Meraki MX appliances across all branches and data centers. Project Phasing: The project will involve two phases: first, ground-up configuration of Meraki devices, template building, and pilot testing in a few local offices; second, a large-scale rollout to the remaining 65 branches using smart hands. Wireless Modernization: Existing Meraki Access Points (APs) in branches are underutilized due to old switches; the new switches will enable full performance, with potential site surveys for larger offices.
