Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient acuity and determine appropriate placement for patients who cannot be roomed immediately upon arrival.
  • Prepare patients for visits by identifying required previsit needs and initiating POCT and radiology tests in collaboration with the medical provider.
  • Coordinate patient care through ongoing collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring smooth and effective care delivery.
  • Delegate clinical tasks to team members based on validated competencies and scope of practice.
  • Provide direct clinical care by assisting with treatments, administering medications per approved protocols, performing diagnostic testing (e.g., oximetry, ECG, glucometry, POCT, urinalysis), and supporting providers during procedures.
  • Support departmental operations by maintaining oversight of urgent care flow, assisting with patient transfers to higher levels of care, and operating monitoring systems such as cardiac monitors.
  • Serve as a clinical resource by orienting new staff or students, modeling professional behavior, and providing guidance to the healthcare team.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment by ensuring cleanliness of nutrition areas and equipment, managing waste and sharps disposal, and storing supplies appropriately.
  • Engage in professional development by attending staff meetings, participating in inservices, staying current through workshops or publications, and supporting PHS patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and providers regarding patient status or concerns, organize care to support team quality, and perform additional functions as required or directed by medical providers.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Graduate Nurse Permit required

  • Degree from accredited academic nursing program (If a program is under conditional status, approval may be granted by system CNO)

  • Minimum ADN preparation with expectation of BSN completion within 5 years of hire

  • BLS required
