THE POSITION

Start a meaningful role as a Temporary, part time Livestock Worker 1 with the Department of Agriculture at Pocono Downs Racetrack. This position allows you to work directly with racehorses in a fast paced and exciting environment. You will help collect samples, support safety procedures, and learn valuable skills related to animal care. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands on work and wants to support the integrity of racing operations.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
This position supports testing and animal handling activities at the racetrack to help maintain safe and responsible racing practices. Work includes collecting samples, assisting veterinarians, and completing general stall and facility tasks. As a Temporary, part time Livestock Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Sample Collection: Collect urine from assigned horses and verify all sample kit numbers and seals
- Veterinary Support: Notify the State Veterinarian when samples are ready and assist during blood collection
- Animal Identification: Confirm horse identity by reading tattoo numbers before completing required tasks
- Sample Handling: Return, split, and wrap urine and blood samples following established guidelines
- Barn Maintenance: Clean work areas and bed stalls as needed
- General Assistance: Support supervisors with other assigned tasks to maintain racetrack operations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade;or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Post Employment Requirement:
- This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.
Preferred Qualification (not required):
- Experience working with and around horses.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
