Job Summary:

The Affective & Clinical Neuroscience Lab (ACNL) at Northwestern University is seeking a Data Analyst (entry-level) to join our growing team. ACNL conducts rigorous and cutting-edge research to examine order and disorder in the emotional brain, investigate the neural mechanisms underlying emotional disorders, and the bidirectional signaling between the brain and body. Utilizes multiple quantitative and qualitative datasets from a variety of sources and interprets results using various techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Assists in the design, development and implementation of business solutions partnering with clients to identify analytical requirements. Compiles reports, charts, and tables based on established statistical methods.

The Data Analyst will be a full-time employee of Northwestern University with full benefits. They will work alongside other ACNL team members in our shared office space on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. This is a one-year, term-limited position. Opportunity for renewal will be based on performance and available funding.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Partners with collaborators to define requirements based on research objectives.

Administration

  • Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
  • Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

Development

  • Completes a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate data and software
  • Merges data from multiple sources in preparation for analysis.
  • Interprets results of analyses for use in reports and presentations

Performance

  • Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
  • Reviews data and Identifies quality issues

Supervises

  • May train other research staff on data preparation and analyses.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook)
  • Python
  • Problem Solving
  • Organizational Skills

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Previous coursework or licensure in data and/or computer science.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Previous experience in a psychology or behavioral science setting.
  • Working knowledge of R, Python, and/or MATLAB (please specify level of knowledge in application).
  • Previous experience managing large-scale datasets.
  • Major/minor in Psychology, Statistics, Neuroscience, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Experience with broader range of statistical techniques.
  • Experience with research grants.
  • Experience with data auditing.
  • Experience working with neuroimaging data, specifically MRI.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $57,000-$70,000 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
