Position Summary
This position will serve as a Research Instructor in the UNC Department of Ophthalmology. The Research Instructor will lead new and established research projects with multi-year trajectories with minimal supervision, perform and troubleshoot advanced and complex experiments and techniques, analyze advanced and complex experiments and techniques through rigorous statistical application, communicate advanced and complex experiments and techniques through presentations, figure generation, and verbal discussion, write scientific manuscripts as lead author and contribute to grant preparations, oversee and coordinate supervisory lab functions such as record keeping, IACUC compliance, protocol maintenance, animal census, and budgeting, supervise and train other lab and community members in lab techniques, statistical analysis, record keeping, and figure preparation, and maintain a high ethical standard of scientific conduct and serve as an example to other researchers of all levels.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • PhD in a basic science, health science, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of postgraduate experience in a research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-level, largely unsupervised research.
  • Experience training others in lab procedures.
  • Experience with compliance and lab management.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prior experience in an academic medical research setting.
