Working Hours/Days

Part-time, Monday-Friday (some weekends when needed). Must be flexible to drive with short notice.


Overview

The driver is responsible for safely transporting employees and customers to and from meetings and events throughout the Altorfer territory which includes the entire state of Illinois, southeastern Iowa, northern Missouri and two counties in Indiana. Some trips may require travel outside of the Altorfer territory. Drivers will need to be available for weekday trips and some weekend trips.



Basic Duties

    Drive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations to ensure that passengers have a smooth and safe ride.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays. Report delays or accidents.
  • Collect tickets or cash fares from passengers checking identification when required.
  • Assist all passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off the bus, ensure they are seated properly, help carry baggage, and answer questions about bus schedules or routes.
  • Load and unload baggage in baggage compartments when needed.
  • Passenger safety: Account for all passengers before leaving a location. Park vehicle at loading areas so that passengers can board. Advise passengers to be seated and orderly while in vehicle, and handle passenger emergencies or disruption if needed.
  • Keep mileage records and repair records up-to-date. Record information, such as cash receipts and ticket fares, and maintain manifest.
  • Inspect vehicle, and check fuel, oil, and water levels prior to departure. If needed add appropriate fluids for safe operation of the vehicle and ensure that the vehicle is always fueled.
  • Make minor repairs to vehicle including but not limited to adding air in tires and changing light bulbs. Maintain cleanliness of bus or motor coach.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Responsible for maintaining, organizing, and displaying beverage and snack inventory before each trip. This includes keeping track and calculating beverage and snack inventory and reporting it to the appropriate contact after each trip.


Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement, or the ability to acquire one.
  • Ability to maintain a valid license and clean driving record, including:
    • No more than two (2) minor violations in the past three (3) years.
    • No major violations in the past five (5) years.
    • Free of major at-fault accidents.
    • A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be completed on the final candidate.
  • Working knowledge and practical use of U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) regulations pertaining to commercial vehicle operation.
  • Must remain current with FMCSA regulations and complete/maintain all required documentation in a timely manner, including the ability to obtain, possess, and maintain a current DOT physical.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques is essential. Must be able to act calmly under stress and avoid hasty or unsafe decisions.
  • Safely, efficiently, and courteously operate motor coaches of at least 45 feet in length, as well as other company vehicles, on public highways and private property, including city and mountainous routes, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to load and unload baggage and package express items by hand up to 100 pounds, as permitted by existing tariffs.
  • Post-trip vehicle responsibilities, including:
    • Cleaning the bus after each trip.
    • Sanitizing passenger areas.
    • Cleaning and servicing onboard restrooms, including sewage systems, as required.
    • Use of an external cleaning service may be permitted when approved, but the driver remains accountable for ensuring the vehicle is clean and ready for service.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to speak additional languages is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to perform basic math involving money, weight, volume, distance, and time.
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience required.
  • Must treat all passengers, company personnel, and others associated with assigned work in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Must be a self-starter, well organized, customer-focused, and possess strong communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with others and function effectively as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate sound problem-solving skills, personal accountability, and a strong commitment to passenger safety.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with customers and coworkers.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position is on the road the majority of the time. Travel is about 95% of the time and the other time will be spent around the store. May, on a continuous basis sit for a long period of time, stand, walk, bend, squat or kneel, reach above shoulder, push/pull and lift up to 100 lbs. May, on a continuous basis answer phone calls and write or use a keyboard to communicate through email. Candidate must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. The wearing of approved safety equipment (i.e. safety glasses with side shields and closed toed shoes) is required when needed. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
