*Position Overview* An industry-leading utility organization is continuing to expand and modernize its gas distribution and transmission infrastructure across its service footprint. To support increased construction activity and regulatory initiatives, the organization relies on external construction and engineering vendors and requires strong Quality Control (QC) oversight to ensure all gas work meets internal and regulatory standards.
The Gas QC Inspector is responsible for observing, monitoring, and documenting gas construction work performed by contractor crews in the field. This role ensures vendor accountability, protects the integrity of the gas network, and supports performance metrics tied to safety, quality, and compliance. *Key Responsibilities* * Perform quality control inspections on gas transmission and distribution projects, including underground gas facilities, during and after construction * Work daily with a QC Lead to plan inspection routes and coordinate with gas construction vendors when needed * Conduct visual inspections of gas work in progress and recently completed work * Utilize proprietary QC inspection software to: * Complete inspection checklists * Document pass/fail criteria * Capture photos of compliant and non-compliant work * Track contractor quality metrics and performance * Identify and document deviations from company gas standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements * Capture and document properly executed work to support positive performance scoring * Conduct and document field safety audits using internal safety systems * Spend approximately 90-95% of time in the field, with limited office or home-based documentation work * Attend weekly staff meetings and daily morning calls *Qualifications & Experience* * 3-5+ years of QC inspection experience in a gas utility or gas construction environment * Strong understanding of: * Gas distribution and transmission construction practices * Utility safety rules and gas-specific safety procedures * Underground utility construction standards * Experience reading gas construction prints, designs, and work orders * Ability to inspect and assess: * Underground gas facilities * Piping, trenching, backfill, restoration, and related construction activities * Proficiency using utility maps, locating equipment, and QC documentation tools * Strong verbal communication skills and ability to professionally engage contractors and internal stakeholders * Ability to de-escalate situations and uphold quality and safety standards *Top Skills (Ideal Candidate)* * 5+ years of experience in utility or gas construction QC * Experience performing and documenting field quality inspections * Ability to collaborate with construction vendors and internal teams to ensure compliance and deliverables *Additional Skills & Tools* * Experience overseeing gas construction quality and compliance * Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and inspection/reporting systems (AS8 or similar preferred) * Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented * Valid driver's license; use of personal vehicle required (mileage reimbursed) *Work Environment & Schedule* * Field-based role (90%) with limited office or remote documentation time (weather dependent) * Monday onsite start at 7:30 AM for schedule review * Tuesday-Friday daily 7:30 AM morning call, followed by field inspections * Full-time schedule: 5 days/week, 8 hours/day * No fully remote option; inspector must be onsite daily *Employee Value Proposition* * Long-term, stable opportunity with a leading utility organization * Competitive pay, benefits, PTO, and holidays * Strong history of contract extensions and possible conversion based on performance * Mileage reimbursement and some scheduling flexibility *Business Impact* This role directly supports the organization's ability to safely expand and maintain its gas infrastructure by ensuring construction vendors meet quality, safety, and regulatory expectations.
