We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Passive Safety / EV Traction Battery Homologation Specialist to join our Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance team. This role focuses on ensuring the compliance of high-voltage battery systems with global vehicle passive safety regulations with focus on EV safety such as FMVSS 305, ECE R100, and other market specific standards. As a central figure in our electrification programs, you will work cross-functionally to develop certification strategies, lead validation activities, and support interactions with regulatory agencies and third-party testing laboratories. Your work will help ensure our electric vehicles meet stringent global safety and compliance benchmarks. Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on high-voltage traction battery regulatory requirements for global markets.
- Lead the homologation strategy and execution for battery systems across electric and hybrid vehicle programs.
- Ensure compliance with FMVSS 305 (Electric-powered vehicles: electrolyte spillage and electrical shock protection), ECE R100, and similar battery-related safety regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering, validation, manufacturing, legal, and third-party labs to coordinate certification activities.
- Develop and manage comprehensive certification plans, including documentation, testing protocols, and regulatory submissions.
- Track and interpret changes in global battery safety standards and ensure timely internal communication and planning.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and technical service providers.
- Participate in vehicle design reviews and program milestones, representing battery compliance priorities.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in battery systems engineering or electric vehicle safety compliance or equivalent engineering experience
- Understanding of international passive safety regulations and testing procedures
- Strong understanding of high-voltage battery technologies and associated vehicle integration
- Demonstrated experience working with FMVSS 305, ECE R100, or equivalent global standards
- Experience coordinating cross-functional projects and working in a fast-paced product development environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Hands-on experience with battery abuse testing, electrical safety testing, and validation plans
- Familiarity with ISO 26262, UL 2580, and other EV-relevant standards
- Strong communication skills, especially in technical writing and presenting to regulatory bodies
- Strong familiarity with aligning North America Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (TSRC) certification activities with the Stellantis Product Development Plan (PDP), including key milestones, deliverables, and crossfunctional integration points
- Working knowledge of Stellantis standard engineering and homologation tools, including internal websites, databases, and document repositories used for regulatory tracking and program execution
- Working knowledge of Stellantis TSRC Processes and Procedures, including compliance documentation, issue escalation, and certification workflows
- Multilingual capabilities or direct experience working with global certification agencies is a plus
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., Kepner-Tregoe)
