Department:Public Works Department Organizational Unit:Roadway and Bridge Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time CLOSE DATE: 05/07/2026 $19.64 to $21.60 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Merritt Island. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work operating moderately complex automotive vehicles or equipment and performing routine automotive service and maintenance. REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) years of experience operating moderately complex automotive vehicles and equipment, including slope mowers, flat-deck tractor mowers, street sweepers, concrete trucks, bucket trucks, 18-yard dump trucks, or other similar specialized mowing and/or maintenance equipment used to maintain roads and drainage rights-of-way (ROWs); OR two (2) years of experience as a Brevard County Automotive Equipment Operator II. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess or obtain, prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a Pesticide Applicator license with certification in right of way pest control by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Must be able to inspect mowing-landscaping contracts and interface with contractors and enter inspection results into a work management system using a mobile device. This is heavy physical work performed outdoors and involves exposure to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, working in and around traffic and moving machinery, insects, herbicides, pesticides, and extreme weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
