Under limited supervision, performs one or more of the following activities on the company's internal networks: configuration management, system administration, security administration, network administration, development system implementation, production system implementation. Responds to issues related to environment, hardware, system, and/or software and implements resolution across technology areas. Supports multiple systems simultaneously and provides leadership for large project efforts. Provides support or lead activities related to change management, outage management and/or project management.

Job Specific Information:

Supports critical infrastructure installations from a Tier-3 perspective at Field locations. Engineer maintains and troubleshoots networks that use Cisco technologies such as routers and switches. Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Identify and solve issues that affect network performance on a day to day basis that have substantial opportunities to affect are customers, which can require unusual work hours.

NOTE: Available 24/7 Tier 3 on-call network troubleshooting skills for remote network locations. Available to travel if needed possibly 25%. 

Abilities, Knowledge, Skills Considered a Plus

  • Cisco CCNA.
  • Extensive knowledge of LAN WAN connectivity.
  • Knowledge in routing and switching, as well as other areas of IP networking and LAN switching.
  • Knowledge of latest wireless technology including but not limited to 802.11 ac wave 2.
  • Experience in the definition, design and implementation of wired/wireless infrastructure platforms (Cisco and Motorola a plus). Familiar with WLAN/LAN network topologies and hardware (MPLS, private line, etc.).
  • Ability to produce detailed documentation including data flow diagrams, logical diagrams and physical diagrams as needed (technical writing skills also a plus).
  • Basic level troubleshooting in a large-scale network environment.
  • Ability to understand LAN requirements that assist Engineering in the development of designs.
  • Network Cabling knowledge fiber or copper Ethernet, plus proficient wireless network knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of network monitoring tools i.e. NetDB, NETQOS or equivalent CCNA.
  • Ability to work at various cross-functional remote FedEx environments.
  • Ability to work in a team environment supporting remote team members as well as remote installations.
  • Ability to lift 45lbs.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in IT-related engineering, computer science or information systems or related field.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years work experience in engineering or information technology environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

Domicile Information:

The preferred locations for this position are Corapolis, PA or Collierville, TN

This position is eligible for telecommuting and may be located anywhere within the United States excluding AK, HI and U.S. territories. Depending on your location, for employees who live within a 50-mile radius of a FedEx office location, you may be required to work at a FedEx Campus several times per week.

Relocation: Relocation assistance is not available.
