In this internship, you'll work alongside Extension Specialists who are subject matter experts turning research into practical, real-world solutions. You'll contribute to projects that address current challenges while building skills in areas such as data collection, analysis, or research communication. Our team values curiosity, collaboration, and learning by doing. Interns are welcomed as contributing members of the team and are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and grow professionally. Work may include a combination of field, office, and occasional remote tasks, depending on the project. Responsibilities Research & Evaluation Collect soil samples three times during Summer 2026 from long-term water optimization field trials (corn, wheat, alfalfa, and alternative forage crops) established near Wellsville, UT; extract and identify below-ground soil arthropods Survey beneficial ground beetles using pitfall traps in corn, wheat, and alfalfa; process, identify, and summarize findings Monitor alfalfa insect pests (alfalfa weevil and aphid complex) using sweep sampling across multiple field sites in Utah Education & Content Development Develop a brief Extension-focused report or factsheet summarizing findings for growers and stakeholders Program & Event Support Present results through 1 to 2 Extension venues such as crop schools, field days, or grower meetings Qualifications Be a university student; graduate students are preferred Have an interest in the Extension program Be dependable Interested in Entomology and IPM Willing to work with growers and stakeholders Required Documents Along with the online application, please attach: Resume to be uploaded at the beginning of your application in the Candidate Profile under "Resume/CV" Cover letter to be typed/pasted at the end of your application Document size may not exceed 10 MB. Advertised Salary Minimum $20/hr, commensurate with experience ADA This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead.
