The RN ED Team Lead oversees patient care and daily operations in the Emergency Department. When assigned as charge RN, they coordinate room assignments, staff, and resources to ensure efficient care delivery. They serve as the on-site clinical leader, support operational flow, and uphold hospital policies. The Team Leader models professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and physicians.



Clinical & Operational Leadership:



  • Supports Clinical Standards - Participates in developing unit and hospital standards of practice; mentors staff in implementation.
  • Leads Practice Integration - Incorporates new procedures, routines, and equipment; ensures staff complete required competencies.
  • Fosters Team Collaboration - Promotes team-based planning and supports annual objectives for specialty teams.
  • Guides Staff Development - Assesses learning needs and coordinates education and competency programs with the Education Coordinator.
  • Facilitates Communication - Leads staff meetings with clear objectives, structured agendas, and follow-through on team input.



Leadership



  • Advocates for Patients - Models patient advocacy in all interactions and encourages resolution-focused behavior among staff.
  • Ensures Accountability - Addresses performance issues, initiates action plans, and partners with the ED Director on disciplinary processes.
  • Supports Staff Growth - Collaborates on performance appraisals, sets individual goals, and monitors ongoing progress.
  • Manages Unit Operations - Acts as charge nurse, delegates appropriately in emergent situations, and can step in for the manager when needed.



Hours: 40 hours per week, Evening Shift



Minimum Education and Experience:



  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program.
  • Current RN licensure in the District of Columbia.
  • At least 3 years of Emergency Department nursing experience.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.
