THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a full-time Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker to join the team at Shawnee State Park. In this role, you'll perform semi-skilled manual work to support the construction, upkeep, and overall maintenance of park grounds and facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work to support the upkeep of Shawnee State Park. You may work independently or assist skilled trades staff to ensure park buildings, grounds, and facilities remain safe, clean, and welcoming for visitors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting skilled maintenance staff with repairs to buildings and facilities using carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other trade tools
  • Operating, maintaining, and cleaning park vehicles and equipment
  • Supporting construction and maintenance tasks such as building simple forms for concrete work, mixing and placing cement, finishing surfaces, and laying stone or block walls
  • Performing grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, cutting firewood, picking up litter, cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging holes or ditches, and clearing drains and culverts
  • Assisting with site preparation, seeding, planting, and maintaining trees and shrubs
  • Painting or staining park buildings, signs, gates, and other structures
  • Completing general housekeeping tasks, including cleaning and supplying restrooms, pit latrines, offices, and other buildings, as well as performing minor repairs such as replacing bulbs or tightening fixtures
  • Ensuring the safe and proper use of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools
  • Providing friendly, helpful assistance and information to park visitors
  • Completing required forms and records, such as daily logs, mileage sheets, fuel records, and leave requests
  • Operating a two-way radio in accordance with established procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until October 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.
  • Work shifts/days vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hrs per week to include weekends and holidays
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
