Job Description

The Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer III (Senior Project Engineer) is responsible for providing support and assistance to college project team members in the performance of their respective responsibilities.

This role requires the ability to step into more senior team functions as needed, including-without limitation-leading design or construction meetings, conducting field inspections, and preparing written and photographic documentation such as correspondence, reports, procedures, guidelines, meeting minutes, and proposed board action requests.

The position coordinates closely with the Design Team to ensure conformance reviews and timely, accurate responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and construction change documents. The role is also primarily responsible for maintaining project files in both electronic and hard copy formats.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Demonstrate functional knowledge of contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications to evaluate and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Obtain and maintain project data, communications, approvals, and documentation among owners, architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with the Design Team to ensure conformance reviews and timely responses to RFIs, submittals, and construction change documents
  • Maintain and administer document control and project control systems; monitor and ensure compliance with established procedures
  • Participate in project meetings, including documentation, administration, and tracking of key information and project status
  • Perform field inspections on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration, addition, and repair projects to verify compliance with:
    • Job specifications
    • Plans
    • Established College Standards
    • Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements
    • Support multiple campus projects as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in technical disciplines such as Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Project Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar or equivalent role involving project or construction management of commercial, public, or educational facility projects
  • Working knowledge and application of:
    • Construction estimating
    • Cost control
    • Project controls and scheduling
    • Documentation processes
    • Engineering and construction principles, techniques, and practices
  • Basic understanding of accounting, cost management, administrative processes, and professional workplace interactions
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with project management systems such as Primavera and e-Builder
  • Ability to always represent Vanir professionally while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with educational programs and projects
  • Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) projects
  • Professional credentials such as:
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
    • Certified Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT)
    • Or similar certification
