The Director of Private Equity Operations provides critical operational and business support to Choate's Private Equity Group, a sophisticated, collaborative team serving a deep roster of middle market PE sponsors. With an initial focus on M&A due diligence, this role drives process improvement and technology adoption; oversees knowledge management and business intelligence services; supports the Private Equity Group's business development and growth initiatives; and manages a growing team of business professionals. In this highimpact position, you will have the rare opportunity to both build and run an operations function guiding strategic initiatives from concept through execution. You'll identify synergies across teams and workflows, lead the daytoday implementation of operational enhancements, and manage the ongoing operations that support a dynamic and highly collaborative practice.

This role offers the ability to influence strategy, shape infrastructure, and deliver innovative, personalized solutions for a group that plays a core role in the Firm's continued success.

Primary Job Functions:

Process Improvement and Technology

  • Implement modern service operations skills, striking the right balance between standardization and flexibility.
  • Innovate through deployment of tech tools, including AI, and constant monitoring of market best practices and fostering relationships with tool suppliers.
  • Develop and oversee system for quality control and continuous improvement.

Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence

  • Design standard documentation and tools to exceed client expectations on speed, quality, cost and user-friendliness.
  • Develop systems to capture and analyze transactional data to improve efficiency and generate insights for client teams.
  • Provide financial/quantitative analysis to enable efficient allocation of resources and value-based pricing strategies.
  • Create learning modules and training programs for legal and non-legal professionals.

Business Development and Growth Initiatives

  • Hire and lead non-lawyer professionals for due diligence and other process-heavy private equity work.
  • Develop pricing strategies, marketing plans and related content.
  • Collaborate with Choate's Wealth Management, Intellectual Property, Finance & Restructuring and other practice groups to help scale practice management infrastructure and pursue cross-selling opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or related field. MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, private equity and/or M&A.
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter and outside-the-box thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Tech savvy and data driven.
  • Collaborative. Strong desire and ability to work effectively with lawyers and other professionals across the Choate platform and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience managing or leading teams.
  • Excellent communication, client service and training skills.
  • Proficiency in using AI tools is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with workflow automation/process management tools is desirable.
  • Exposure to BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and workflow automation platforms a plus.
  • Must exhibit decisive, handson leadership to drive work forward and ensure all deliverables are completed on time.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range for this specific position at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to qualifications and experience, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
