Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Razia Sahi, of the Social Interaction and Emotion Lab in the Department of Psychology, this Laboratory/Technical Assistant will be responsible for various administrative, organizational, and research tasks for this new laboratory.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
- Coordinating day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
- Coordinating, directing, and monitoring the efforts of undergraduate research assistants.
- Recruiting and coordinating study participants.
- Providing research support, preparing manuscripts, and gathering reference information and literature.
- Collecting, sorting, processing samples, performing preliminary analysis, and analyzing data.
- Overseeing data management for the laboratory, including recruitment databases, data storage, and data distribution.
- Performing general administrative duties in the laboratory, including record keeping and organizing meetings and events.
This position would be ideal for individuals who plan to apply to doctoral programs in Psychology after holding this position. |

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
- 1.5 years of experience working in a research setting (e.g., as a research assistant in a psychology lab).

- Requires a bachelor's degree in psychology or an adjacent scientific/technical discipline (e.g., Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Sociology, etc.).
- Requires excellent communication and organizational skills; the ability to integrate multiple sources of information; strong decision-making and problem-solving skills; and the ability to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals throughout the University and broader community.

- Proficiency with statistical and programming languages/software (e.g., R, Python).
- Prior experience conducting empirical research on questions related to the lab's research focus. Prior experience managing others and building community.

- Position regularly uses software like R, PsychoPy, and MS Office Suite.
- Will learn any and all systems RU uses for IRB, laboratory management, data management and storage, grant submission, recruitment, facilities and space scheduling and management, event management, website and social media maintenance and updates, and know or will learn all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends, depending on participant availability. Involves occasional travel (e.g., conferences).
