Description

Vedder's Chicago office is seeking a Business Development Coordinator. The Business Development Coordinator (the Coordinator) is responsible primarily for supporting the Business Development function in providing targeting analysis for the lawyers as well as research and materials for active prospect pursuits. The Coordinator will work as a member of the marketing group but will also interface with the library.

The Coordinator will conduct complex company and public records research and distill results into actionable reports for lawyers and Business Development (BD) professionals. The Coordinator will provide background material as needed for client development conversations and meetings including but not restricted to: summaries of legal and business issues, prospect legal representation, relevant news, and executive biographies. The Coordinator will also support the overall firm marketing effort with research on competitors, and business and industry trends. Working with the BD professionals and the Practice Development (PD) Managers, the Coordinator will also push on-demand data to the core practice groups and others. The Coordinator will work closely with the Directories & Research Coordinator, developing tools together and providing complete back-up to that individual in their responsibilities including directories and surveys management.

As a Business Development Coordinator your job duties will include but not be limited to:



  • Conducts research: as assigned by the BD or PD Managers, the Coordinator will analyze data and distill results into succinct overviews and action plans. With experience, the Coordinator may interface directly with the lawyers.
  • Develop products: under supervision of the BD Sr. Manager and Sr. Mgr of Functional Support, the Coordinator will be encouraged to find new resources and/or deploy research repositories into deliverables that are easily consumed by busy lawyers and others.
  • Monitor trends: the Coordinator will actively monitor and communicate key developments in business or legal issues and relay these to appropriate client team members and practice area leaders.
  • Provide overflow and back-up support: The Coordinator will be familiar enough with the roles of the other researchers on the team in order to pick up their responsibilities during vacations or other absences. The Coordinator may also need to provide overflow support to the other researchers and to the CRM team when needed.

  • Strong client service attitude required
  • Needs to work well under pressure and be an excellent problem-solver and team player
  • Must have the ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail is necessary
  • Must have ability to work effectively with personnel at diverse levels of the firm


Qualifications & Required Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree required; MLS, MBA or JD a plus.
  • Minimum of five to eight years of experience in professional services field preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM, business reference and research tools, including corporate deal databases, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:



  • MS Word, Excel, InterAction or similar CRM, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, project management software


Compensation Range: $60,000/yr. to $73,000/yr.
