Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Advising & Student Services is a part of the team responsible for managing the oversees all aspects of academic advising and related student services operations for the BS Business and Technology Management, MS Management of Technology, MS Industrial Engineering, and PhD Human-Centered Technology Innovation and Design programs housed in the Department of Technology Management and Innovation. This position will supervise and ensure timely and efficient academic advising & student services for the department's 800+ students, and conceptualize, develop, and implement extracurricular activities and special events to support the success of the department's students. This includes hosting regular one-on-one appointments with students, overseeing all administrative processes associated with student advisement (e.g. registration, course permissions, graduation audits, CPT/OPT, etc), driving internal retention initatives, and developing extracurricular academic and extracurricular services programs and offerings (e.g. social/community building, career development, etc) to better serve the department's growing student population. This position will be the primary decision maker on all matters of academic advising, academic policy enforcement, and student services administration. The Assistant Director role will oversee a staff of professional advisors (undergraduate, graduate, career), collaborate closely with faculty (including Ph.D. Advisors and Academic Program Directors), and serve as the intermediary between advisors/students and department leadership on all matters related to academic advising, academic probation, student degree progression/success, adherence to department/Tandon academic policy, and will determine the proper escalation pathways on all issues.


Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs

Required Experience:
5+ years experience in an academic institution with proven track record in academic advising and administration or equivalent combination of education and experience, managing budgets, directly supervising full-time professional advising staff.

Preferred Experience:
5+ years academic advising and advising services administration experience, Prior experience advising and supporting international students highly preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must demonstrate the ability to work as a team member; to think creatively; and to evaluate and improve existing process and procedures. Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Creative, strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and knowledge of other PC programs. Must be able to comprehend and follow a diverse set of verbally communicated operational procedures with little guidance or training, self-manageable. Must be comfortable and professional in conducting business by telephone and in person. Demonstrated success in effective multitasking, trouble shooting, attention to detail, and meeting deadlines. Position demands significant attention to detail, effective communications, team collaboration and working on weekends. Ability to travel between campuses if needed and must be willing to work weekends and evening.


Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $80,000.00 to USD $100,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
