Job Overview

Title: Buyer

Reports to: VP of Operations

Location: Kent, WA - onsite

Type: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Schedule Type: *100% Onsite: Monday - Friday day shift. Ability to work overtime as needed

Hytek production is open 24 hours per day. All shifts are as follows: 1st shift (Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (Monday - Friday, 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.), 3rd shift (Sunday - Friday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.)

Position Summary

Responsible for procuring raw materials, chemicals, paints, and consumables required to support finishing operations. This role ensures uninterrupted production by maintaining supply continuity, controlling costs, managing supplier KPI's, and ensuring materials meet strict aerospace quality and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Procure chemicals, paints, and consumables used in finishing processes.
  • Source and manage suppliers for:

    • Processing Chemicals
    • Racking materials and tooling
    • Packaging materials
    • PPE and safety supplies
    • Maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) items


  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and lead times with vendors.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment to support production schedules.
  • Manage purchasing parameters with ERP system.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and maintain an approved supplier list (ASL).
  • Identify alternate sources and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Works to gain process efficiencies and reduce costs within the supply chain.
  • Monitors supplier performance for timeliness, quality requirements, and material issues.
  • Coordinates major or unusual material requirements with all departments.
  • Supports all departments with their Capital Purchase Requests.
  • Mentors inventory specialist and more junior purchasing employees.
  • Compiles, records, and tracks pertinent purchasing data, activities, and pricing data.
  • Performs follow-up on current orders to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Follows effective supplier management tools including involvement in the selection process of new suppliers, maintaining effective relationships with current vendors, and participating in negotiation of contracts for products and services.
  • Analyzes quotations and places orders within scope of spending authority and/or recommends best course of action.
  • Responsible for complying with AS9100 and NADCAP purchasing standards including completing new supplier forms, initiating periodic vendor self-reviews, and generating supplier scorecards as required.
  • Assist with audits.
  • Complete all necessary documentation pertaining to inventory movement and transactions.
  • Prepare orders and follows up to expedite delivery and shipment.
  • Coordinates return of rejected or unsuitable orders.
  • Responds to requests for new products and services and researches status of current orders.
  • Other duties may include management of raw material for Boeing Trim Program, input of requisitions based on production MRO inventory, and maintenance of paint expiration dates and SDS.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.



Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in related field of study or equivalent experience or a minimum 2 years' experience in Purchasing or Procurement. Would consider internships as previous experience.
  • Experience in aerospace, specifically with AS9100 and NADCAP.
  • APICS or ISM certification (CPIM, CPSM).
  • Knowledge of technical and specialized materials and items purchases and sources of supply, purchasing techniques, policies and procedures.
  • Strong PC skills to include Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Knowledge of ERP Systems, preferably SyteLine.



Required Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a pallet jack and potential backup support to the inventory control specialist using a forklift.
  • Must have a regular and dependable attendance record.
  • Must be able to Read/Write/Communicate in English.
  • Must be able authorized to work in the U.S. An export license will be required to work in all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.



Essential Mental/Physical Demands

Ability to sit in an office environment for long periods. Extensive use of hands in writing, computer and other office equipment. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. on an occasional basis. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemical fumes, or airborne particles.

Salary Range for position: $28.25 - $50.00. The pay range and total compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to your relevant experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other employees.
