Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source's client, University of Oregon, is recruiting a Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy (Northwest & Southwest States) to join their team in Eugene or Portland, OR two days per week onsite.

The role is expected to average approximately one week of travel per month (about 10 trips annually), with the majority of time focused on regional development efforts, including cultivating and stewarding relationships to achieve market saturation.

This position will primarily focus in: Seattle, Denver, Boulder, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas.

About this role: As the Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy (Northwest & Southwest States), you will play a key role in expanding the University of Oregon's philanthropic reach across a diverse and geographically dispersed region. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on gifts in the $100K-$999K range, and lead all aspects of the donor lifecycle - from identification and qualification to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. You will be responsible for developing and executing a regional fundraising strategy, partnering closely with colleagues across University Advancement and academic units to align donor interests with institutional priorities.

As a highly external-facing role, you will spend time traveling throughout your assigned region to build relationships, advance donor conversations, and represent the university. You will collaborate closely with regional teammates, central development, and campus partners to coordinate outreach and maximize engagement opportunities.

This role is ideal for a proactive fundraiser who enjoys autonomy, thrives in a fast-paced and relationship-focused environment, and is motivated by building connections across a broad region. You will contribute to regional strategy while personally driving results and helping grow a strong pipeline of major gift donors.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include:

Fundraising & Portfolio Management

    Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on gifts in the $100K-$999K range, and drive all phases of the donor lifecycle from identification through stewardship
  • Develop and execute strategic, individualized cultivation and solicitation plans to secure philanthropic support aligned with university priorities
  • Proactively identify, qualify, and build a pipeline of new prospects across the assigned region through research, outreach, and engagement
  • Lead donor meetings and solicitations, making compelling cases for support across a range of university initiatives
  • Travel within the region to engage donors, evaluate prospects, and advance giving conversations

Regional Strategy & Collaboration

  • Develop and implement a regional fundraising strategy in partnership with senior leadership and regional team members
  • Collaborate closely with other regional directors, central development, and academic units to coordinate outreach and maximize donor engagement
  • Partner with programs including annual giving, gift planning, principal gifts, and alumni engagement to strengthen the donor pipeline and outcomes
  • Represent the assigned region in development meetings, contributing insights and strategy to broader advancement efforts

Relationship Building & Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the university across a geographically dispersed region
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the university, effectively communicating mission, priorities, and opportunities for impact
  • Partner with faculty, administrators, and volunteers to connect donors with meaningful engagement and giving opportunities
  • Ensure thoughtful stewardship and recognition of donors to foster long-term relationships

Planning & Execution

  • Set and achieve annual fundraising goals aligned with regional and institutional priorities
  • Track and manage donor activity using CRM systems, ensuring accurate and timely documentation
  • Support planning and execution of regional events and engagement opportunities in collaboration with advancement partners
  • Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture while maintaining high standards of professionalism

Experience You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of professional fundraising experience OR 5+ years of related experience (e.g., sales, business development)
  • Demonstrated success building relationships and closing major gifts or equivalent high-value deals
  • Strong portfolio management skills, including prioritization and strategic planning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and navigate a complex organization
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education fundraising
  • Experience working with volunteer boards or advisory groups
