The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support the Housing Maintenance team in Daytona Beach, Florida. This role is responsible for performing a wide range of routine and skilled maintenance and repair tasks across campus facilities and infrastructure.

The technician will work across multiple trades-including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC-to ensure campus buildings remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position plays a key role in supporting student housing, classrooms, and campus operations through timely response to work orders, preventive maintenance, and support during campus events and emergencies.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and experienced in general facilities maintenance, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Key Job Functions
  • Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems and campus infrastructure across multiple trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC)

  • Respond to and complete assigned work orders in a timely manner, ensuring work meets campus standards and is properly documented in the CMMS system

  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and repairs to maintain facility operations and safety

  • Perform routine tasks such as replacing fixtures, repairing drywall, painting, installing doors and hardware, and maintaining flooring and ceiling systems

  • Maintain roofs, gutters, and drainage systems, including cleaning and minor repairs

  • Install appliances, classroom equipment, and fixtures such as whiteboards, monitors, and bulletin boards

  • Support residence hall turnover and classroom preparation

  • Assist with campus office moves and special event setup/breakdown (tables, chairs, etc.)

  • Operate university vehicles safely and report maintenance needs

  • Respond to campus emergencies, including severe weather preparation and recovery efforts

  • Maintain clean and organized work and storage areas

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is up to $18.00 per hour. The final offer will consider the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience, along with applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED with proficiency in grammar, spelling, basic composition, and mathematics

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Clearances:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license
  • In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required
  • Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers

Unacceptable driving records (within specified timeframes) include:

  • Three (3) or more at-fault accidents and/or moving violations within the previous 36 months
  • Two (2) or more at-fault accidents or moving violations within the past 12 months
  • Conviction for driving while impaired (DWI/DUI) within the past five (5) years
  • Convictions for serious offenses (e.g., hit and run, reckless driving, racing, death by vehicle) within the past five (5) years

Serious violations resulting in immediate disqualification include, but are not limited to:

  • Excessive speeding (15+ mph over limit), DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless or careless driving
  • Driving under suspension/revocation, fleeing law enforcement, vehicle theft
  • Improper lane changes, following too closely, passing a stopped school bus, or use of a vehicle in unlawful activities

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills with general knowledge of building systems and maintenance operations
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials handling and OSHA safety standards
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform basic calculations
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and document work performed
  • Proficiency in using job-related tools, equipment, and technology systems
  • Ability to distinguish colors and finishes
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team

Additional Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders and/or scaffolding for extended periods
  • Ability to work in overhead and confined spaces
  • Must possess normal vision and hearing
  • Strong manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for safe operation of tools and equipment

Required Experience:

One to three years of related work experience.
