Overview

Department 476 Waterfront Engineering at Quonset Point is seeking highly motivated senior level candidates to provide technical leadership for second shift structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction activities for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class.

The department's main goal is to provide timely, high quality technical leadership for all manufacturing activities at the Quonset Point facility. D476 is responsible for the resolution of design issues, troubleshooting construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements.

Individuals selected for this position will be providing deck plate engineering in the form of Change Requests, Change Notices, UNSATs, Engineering Reports, and other engineering documents to support the construction schedule and module ship out.

In addition, engineers in D476 are exposed to various aspects of submarine deck plate construction which provide opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer. Hands-on engineering is permitted at Quonset Point.

Qualifications

Required:

    Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
  • 5+ years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • Previous experience with the design, development, construction, and/or operation of submarine systems, components, or structures
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Experience with submarine mechanical, structural, electrical, and piping systems, components or design processes/products
  • Experience with mechanical/structural/piping design, evaluation, and/or construction
  • Experience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solving
  • Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction support
  • Experience dispositioning Engineering Reports or Change Notices
  • Experience with task or project management
  • Knowledge of VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class ship design and arrangement - including new design (VPM) programs


Skills

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Operations personnel
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • NX and Teamcenter
  • Candidates must be able to take initiative and work independently
  • Candidates must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Candidates must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment
  • This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces
