The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health seeks a Staff Associate I to support environmental epidemiology research focused on climate change, public health, and equity.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Staff Associate I contributes to the implementation and execution of research projects by conducting data management and preliminary analyses using established methodologies. The incumbent supports the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant materials and contributes to the dissemination of research findings.

Working under the direction of the PI, the Staff Associate I applies established research methods and sound professional judgment to advance project objectives and ensure the timely completion of research deliverables.

Responsibilities:

Research and Data Analysis



  • Conduct data management, cleaning, and preliminary quantitative and/or qualitative analyses using established statistical and computational methods.
  • Apply established analytical workflows to support environmental epidemiology and climate-health research projects.
  • Prepare tables, figures, and data summaries for use in manuscripts, presentations, and reports.


Scholarly and Grant Support



  • Contribute to the drafting and editing of manuscripts, abstracts, and other scholarly materials for publication.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications, including compiling supporting documentation and research materials.


Research Coordination and Project Support



  • Coordinate research activities, including project meetings and collaborative sessions, to support study implementation and data review.
  • Track project timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional guidelines.


Research Dissemination



  • Develop materials to support dissemination of research findings, including summaries, visualizations, and outreach content aligned with project objectives.


Data and Research Infrastructure Support



  • Maintain research datasets, documentation, and analytical workflows to support organization, reproducibility, and accessibility of research outputs.


Other Duties



  • Perform related duties as assigned in support of research objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health, epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in data management and standard research software and tools.
  • Strong organizational, analystical, and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience supporting environmental epidemiology or public health research projects.
  • Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience contributing to manuscripts or grant submissions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and apply sound judgment within established research guidelines.
