Physical Therapist Assistant I

The manager has indicated that the ideal candidate for this role will have experience with the neurologic/brain injury population or patients of higher medical acuity. Pediatric experience is preferred but not required. There is a possibility of extension or conversion, but it is not guaranteed. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm.


Clinical Responsibilities

  • Read and review the medical record to understand the patient's diagnosis, precautions, goals, and treatment plans. Ask questions regarding unclear information.
  • Provide direct interventions in individual or group sessions as planned, especially gait training, exercise, and modalities. Can treat patients in any setting in the hospital, including the ambulatory network.
  • Evaluate the patient's response to intervention and document patient progress in the chart. Instruct patients and parents in the home program, especially gait training and transfer.
  • Inform the physical therapist of progress/problems with specific patients.
  • Perform care coordination tasks associated with patient care, including communication with hospital and community providers, tracking of medical equipment, etc.


Academic Responsibilities

  • Maintain current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of life-long learning. Seek opportunities for clinical growth and development within the department through mentorship.
  • Pursue and achieve departmental competencies as assigned.
  • Attend in-services within the department and hospital as appropriate.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain productivity and fiscal responsibility in the provision/utilization of services.
  • Actively participate in department planning meetings.


Education Requirement

  • Pennsylvania State license as a Physical Therapy Assistant - Required
  • CPR Certification (within 90 days of hire) - Required
  • Associate Degree from an approved Physical Therapy Assistant Program - Required
  • At least one year pediatric experience - Preferred


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Interpersonal relationship skills that permit effective communication with parents, children of various ages, peers, and supervisors.
