Director of Training

Summary



The Director of Training (DOT) is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and oversight of all training programs for company employees and contract personnel. This role ensures that training programs meet all company, regulatory, and industry requirements and are effectively administered through appropriate courseware, training materials, facilities, and processes.



The DOT provides leadership and oversight for all training department functions, including supervising training and administrative staff. The DOT serves as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, external training vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding training programs and requirements.



This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Operations.



The Director of Training has the authority to develop, implement, and enforce training policies and standards necessary to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company procedures.



The DOT has the authority to suspend or delay training activities that do not meet regulatory, safety, or quality standards.



The DOT is responsible for ensuring training records and documentation are properly maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversee all aspects of training for company employees and contract personnel performing work in accordance with company programs.
  • Ensure all personnel are trained in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain training programs aligned with organizational needs, applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), regulatory guidance, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain training materials including courseware, training aids, and related instructional resources.
  • Establish and maintain training department standards, processes, and procedures to support effective training administration.
  • Assess training department staffing requirements and provide recommendations to ensure adequate staffing within approved budget parameters.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics to ensure training department outputs meet or exceed capacity, quality, and compliance objectives.
  • Author and maintain training program manuals, courseware, and other training documentation.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and administrative documentation.
  • Supervise trainers and administrative personnel within the training department.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop training department staff.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with government oversight agencies for all training-related matters.
  • Manage relationships with external providers of training products and services.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure training services meet operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Experience



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an instructor pilot and/or check pilot within an FAA certificated air carrier training program, or equivalent experience (e.g., Part 142 training center, military aviation, or other government aviation agency).
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated leadership or management experience.


Preferred Experience



  • Previous experience as a Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, or Director of Training within the aviation industry.
  • 5,000+ hours total flight time, including 2,000+ hours Pilot in Command in turboprops, turbojets, and/or transport category aircraft requiring more than one required crewmember.


Required Education



  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).


Preferred Education



  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, training, education, management, or a related field.


Skills and Competencies



  • Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and aviation training and testing standards.
  • Experience conducting aviation-related research and authoring controlled and uncontrolled documentation.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn and operate specialized or proprietary software systems.


Work Environment and Travel

Work is performed primarily in an office, classroom, and training environment. The role may require interaction with instructors, flight crews, and operational personnel.

Occasional travel may be required to training locations, operational sites, or regulatory meetings.

Physical Requirements



  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as typing.
  • Minimal physical exertion required.
