Construction Layout Specialist- Surveyor

Overview

In this role you will be managing and overseeing construction surveying layout execution and as built reality capture in an exciting and fast-paced environment. This includes self-perform services such as concrete or process piping as well as QA/QC of sub-contractor.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Control

  • Oversee the establishment and implementation of job-related control points & benchmarks provided by outside surveyors.
  • Establishes additional control points, grid lines for piping, equipment, structures, wall lines, columns, and anchor bolts as needed.
  • Transfers benchmarks as needed.

2. Field Layout

  • Identifies, troubleshoots, & seeks resolutions for field issues and discrepancies, including both technical equipment issues, field best practices, and/or digital project data issues.
  • Executes all layout or as-built tasks necessary, including pre-planning ahead of scheduled activities.
  • Determines & implements mathematical functions as they pertain to layout and engineering.
  • Performs fundamental layout techniques using Tape Measures, Squares, Builders Levels, Transits, and technical equipment, primarily Robotic Total Station.

3. Plan Reading

  • Interprets contract documents, design models, & construction models as necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Reviews and maintains documents as received pertaining to dimensions and changes due to architect, owner - such as field orders, change orders and request for information and makes recommendations as needed.

4. Communication

  • Coordinate with VDC resources and/or equipment manufacturer support when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Maintains field notes, uploads, reports on a daily basis, including transmission of field data to the office VDC team.
  • Communicate with field management team (superintendent, assist superintendent) about job needs for new work and ongoing work as related to field technician capabilities/duties.
  • Coordinate with VDC/BIM team the goals/needs/focus of projects as related to VDC/BIM capabilities/options.

5. Standards

  • Reviews initial distribution of field data, layout drawings prior to establishing layout in the field
  • Follows "Best Practices" related to construction surveying and reality capture / laser scanning tasks. These include layout, data collection, as-builts, equipment care/maintenance, note-keeping, and data transfer.
  • Travel required
    • Perform construction surveying related field work as needed to supplement C-Core schedule/personnel needs including layout, data collection, QA/QC, and laser scanning
    • Perform construction surveying related office work as needed to supplement C-Core schedule/personnel needs including laser scan registration, layout point creation, and VDC/BIM data review/analysis
    • Participate in miscellaneous construction survey related tasks as needed

Level II:

Includes all responsibilities of Level I, plus years of experience working on multiple large complex projects, and ability to work independently in lead role working directly with VDC team, field team, and subcontractors.

Education & Years of Experience:

Level I:

  • Minimum 2+ years of construction related experience and/or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level II:

  • Minimum 5+ years of construction surveying related experience and/or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
