Senior Systems Engineer

Mission

Modern naval operations depend on the ability to detect meaningful signals within vast amounts of radio frequency data. Across the electromagnetic spectrum, critical intelligence is often hidden within noise, requiring advanced systems to identify, interpret, and elevate what matters most.

At WR, we support mission-critical signals intelligence capabilities that help the U.S. Navy transform raw data into actionable insight. Our work directly contributes to operational awareness, decision-making, and mission success in complex and dynamic environments.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to help evolve next-generation signals intelligence systems by integrating AI and machine learning capabilities into signal processing workflows.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of systems engineering, data and advanced analytics, helping design and refine systems that can process high volumes of radio transmissions, detect patterns, and surface signals of interest.

You'll contribute across the full system lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through integration, testing, and operational support, ensuring these systems perform reliably in real-world environments.

What You'll Do

  • Independently analyze the performance of hardware and software interfaces, and identify alternatives to optimize resource usage and implement modern hardware solutions.
  • Participate in the design, coding, testing, debugging, configuration, and documentation of operating systems and software.
  • Support the evaluation and integration of new technical resources.
  • Assist users with the development and integration of systems and environments.
  • Install and manage system and user utilities, perform modifications and upgrades, and efficiently diagnose and resolve system issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and vendors for problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Plan and execute system version upgrades and manage custom interfaces.

What Makes This Role Different

  • Work on mission-critical systems supporting naval operations.
  • Apply AI/ML in a real-world operational environment, not just theory.
  • Tackle complex challenges involving signal processing, data, and system integration.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and program teams across disciplines.
  • Contribute to systems that directly impact how intelligence is identified and used.

Must have qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related scientific discipline
  • Ten (10)+ years of professional experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in the development, design, and prototyping of requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Jira and/or Confluence, Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with Cameo
  • Experience with signals intelligence (SIGINT), RF systems, or communications systems
  • Familiarity with machine learning applications in signal processing or data analysis
  • Experience with data pipelines, modeling, or algorithm development

Clearance Requirement

  • Active DoD secret security clearance is required to start.

The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment third-party background check which may include verification of any of the following: Employment history; Education and/or certifications; Criminal history; Driving Records; Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.

Benefits Offered: WR offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Paid Time Off, Company Paid Holidays, Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Flexible Spending Account, Employee Assistance Program, and Tuition Reimbursement.

WR is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, traits associated with race, color, citizenship status, national origin, ancestry, genetic information, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, including lactation, age, religion, marital status, physical or mental disability, veterans' status, or any additional factors that are protected by law.
