About the Opportunity:

The Facilities and Construction Safety Specialist will develop and implement environmental health and safety programs, procedures, and trainings for the Facilities, Fleet, and Parks Department (FFP). This position will provide expertise in creation and implementation of safety programs after an initial gap assessment, perform Job Hazard Analysis, create standard operating procedures (SOPs), perform incident investigations, and assess environmental compliance. They will participate in capital projects and institute further safety measures to reduce injury potential to FFP Staff, this includes the utilization and management of Environmental, Health & Safety contractors.

The ideal candidate for this position will be committed to contributing to a safe space for everyone within and interacting with the Facilities, Fleet, & Parks Department. We are looking for an energetic safety professional with a passion for public service, an eye for detail, a strong work ethic with the ability to multi-task and adapt to reactive and emergency situations including any after-incident reviews, demonstrate good communication skills, and have consistent attendance. Successful candidates will enjoy creating safety programs, collaborating with team members, facilitating safety meetings, and establishing up to date safety protocols for field staff.Successful candidate should also be able to shift priorities to respond to on-site incidents, safety walks on construction sites, and staff injuries with compassion, professionalism, and a positive demeanor. Successful candidate will be a team player.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of applicable experience in loss prevention, safety program development or occupational safety and health; OR

  • Associatedegree with course work in occupational safety and health or a related field and three (3) years of responsible experience in loss prevention, safety program development or occupational safety and health; OR

  • Bachelor's degree with course work in occupational safety and health or a related field and one (1) year of responsible experience in loss prevention, safety program development or occupational safety and health.

Additional Requirements:
