Position Summary The Salvation Army Northern Division Harbor Light Center Cook is responsible for preparing meals for participants and employees in a commercial kitchen. The Cook also assists with meal planning. Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Cook, prepare, and store a variety of food using standardized safe food handling guidelines and
- meeting health code. Meet special dietary needs of participants as directed (55%).
- Provide meal service (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in an inviting manner to participants and staff (15%).
- Clean and sanitize food service utensils, dishes, cookware, serveware, equipment, and areas (10%).
- Assist with meal planning utilizing ordered and donated food items, minimizing food waste (10%).
- Assist with meal preparation and cooking for special events and meetings (10%). Monitor fiscal responsibility and assist with the development of the annual budget. (5%)

- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification.
- One year of relevant experience required.
- Must pass background checks.
Competencies
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines, and best practices.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, scrubbing, food preparation and cooking. .
- Ability to use PC and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
- * Must be able to stand for the majority of shift with some walking.
- * Continuous bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, stooping, and frequently moving hands and arms.
- * Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
- * Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person.
- * Not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. Must be able to communicate clearly in English, and work in person and on the phone.
