This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. As part of a hardworking team of engineers and technicians, you will provide engineering and test services that will enable assessment, analysis and production of materials and processes for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Support all programs including, New Glenn and Lunar, with technical guidance related to insulation (polyurethane, high-end polymers, polyvinylidene, etc.) and coatings material selection, process development, qualification, process improvements, and non-conformance resolution
  • Work with manufacturing, design engineering, and other stakeholders to facilitate production of parts and integration of subassemblies, assemblies, subsystems, and systems
  • Participate in the development and optimization of new materials and process specifications and procedures
  • Support Non-conformance resolution through evaluation and disposition development
  • Perform failure analysis of materials and root cause corrective action analysis of processes
  • Engage with design and operations on sustaining and refurbishment activities, to include operational maintenance requirements and standard repair development
  • Communicate technical concepts and results to program, manufacturing, and engineering stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, chemical, mechanical, aerospace, electrical, etc.) or physical sciences
  • 5 to 10 years related work experience with insulation ( high-end polymers, polyvinylidene, polyurethane, etc.) and other coatings, including paint
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supporting multiple tasks with competing priorities, delivering results and clearly communicating Risks, Issues and help needed
  • Experience with operations support, resolving real-time requests and issues and delivering high quality results
  • Experience with testing and physical characterization methods for adhesives, sealants, and coatings
  • Experience developing and executing test plans in support of specifications, process control documents, and statistical process control
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of material properties and application methods of adhesives and coatings.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams across large geographic distances
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Desired:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, chemical, mechanical or aerospace) or physical sciences
  • Experience with automation of controlled processes
  • Experience with the fabrication, application and evaluation of aerospace materials and products
  • Experience resolving nonconformances and developing MRB and standard repair procedures
  • Knowledge of testing and physical characterization methods for aerospace materials
  • Knowledge of material failure modes and compatibility with materials in space and marine environments
  • Ability to develop M&P processes, qualification and scaling for production
  • Experienced in reviewing engineering drawings and specifications to provide insight and interpretation for production and operations personnel
  • Experience with Windchill, Gensuite, JIRA, Confluence, AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks and MATLAB/Simulink
  • 5S and Lean Six Sigma experience

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
