Application Engineer - CRT/ES

USA-Portland (ME)

We are seeking a highly motivated Application Engineer to join the Kepware Portland Engineering Solutions (ES) team. In this role, you will investigate and help resolve customerreported issues, collaborate on the development of strategic enhancements, and contribute to testing efforts. While the QA responsibilities are primarily manual, experience with test automation in Java, Python, JavaScript, or C# is a strong plus.

You will work closely with teams across the organization, including Engineering, Technical Support, and global partners, to improve product quality and drive engineering excellence. This role is ideal for someone who is adaptable, selfdriven, eager to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, technical environment.

This position is a combination of troubleshooting customer issues with our products and quality assurance. As such, a background in either software testing or Industrial Automation and Process Control systems are relevant

Day-To-Day:

As an Application Engineer, you will:

  • Configure, use, and troubleshoot, and reproduce customer issues in our products.
  • Build strong debugging skills and develop expertise across multiple product areas.
  • Work closely with Software Engineers, Technical Support, and teams in Pune, India and the US to understand customer issues and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Assist in designing and testing bug fixes and enhancements to our software products alongside developers, QA engineers, and product owners in an Agile environment.
  • Ensure every feature meets our full definition of done, including functional testing, automation readiness, performance, security, and DevOps considerations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our products and customer uses cases to drive your ability to guide customers and resolve customer issues
  • Collaborate with customers and Technical Support toidentifyand resolve the root causes of issues.
  • Collaborate with others on the fixing of bugs and delivering high-quality solutions to customers and business partners.
  • Bring fresh ideas and innovative thinking to the team.

Qualificationsand Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering,relatedSTEM field, or equivalent experience.
  • One or both of the following:
    • 2+ years' experience in software testing, or customer support of software or software/hardware products
      • Solid understanding of software testing methodologies, including: Unit, integration, functional, UAT, interoperability, scalability, usability, performance, and security test design
      • Experience with manual test design, execution, and defect reporting.
    • 2+ year's experience in Industrial Automation, Process Control, or related field. MES/HMI/SCADA, PLC configuration and programming, and the development of factory or process automation systems are all relevant experience for this position
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and work effectively in a complex environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across largescale, complex systems.
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional growth.

Experience with the following is a plus

  • Working withnetwork protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, and SOAP, or industrial protocols such as OPC DA and UA, CIP, DNP3, IEC 60870/61850 and Modbus, and IoT protocols such as REST and MQTT
  • Experience testing software on Windows and Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Visual Studio, GitLab, JIRA, issue-tracking systems, and unit-testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Wireshark, Containers, or Postman

PTC carefully considers a widevariety of factorswhendeterminingcompensation.Theanticipatedannual salary range for this positionisbetween $85,000-112,000.The salary rangereflectsa good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.Actualcompensationmay vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
